Shane Brennan is a Senior Physiotherapist and Foot and Ankle Specialist at Mid West Physiotherapy in Castletroy, Limerick.
Shane is passionate about treating foot and ankle injuries. Since graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin in 2014, his career has led him on a path to specialising in the assessment and treatment of foot and ankle injuries.
Shane started his physiotherapy career at University Hospital Limerick, where he developed an interest in treating people after orthopaedic surgery. During this time, Shane injured his own foot playing Gaelic football – tearing ligaments in his midfoot – which resulted in 3 surgeries over the course of 12 months. It was this period that inspired him to learn more about the rehabilitation of foot and ankle injuries, so that he could apply his personal experience to his professional work.
Following a 4-year stint in Limerick, Shane moved to London where he worked for 2 years in private practice, including working with youth elite gymnasts. Treating these high performance athletes gave Shane a deep understanding of the importance of the foot and ankle to healthy movement. His focus since has been on learning the many ways in which pain or injury can manifest in the foot and ankle, and how to successfully rehabilitate these issues so that patients can move freely again with comfort and ease.
Mid West Physiotherapy was delighted to welcome Shane to our clinical team in September 2021, where he has since progressed to the role of Senior Physiotherapist. Shane now leads our foot and ankle service, and he continues to train and deepen his knowledge of this field.
